Artist Creates Battleships and Fighter Aircrafts Using Vintage Newspapers

Atsushi Adachi is a Japanese visual artist who is best known for making replicas of objects like battleships and fighter aircrafts using newspapers. What makes Adachi’s work special is the fact that he uses vintage newspapers that are from the same period as his creations.

While Adachi is mostly inspired by Japanese military history, his works also include replicas of Neil Armstrong’s Space Suit and old cars like Bugatti T35.

According to the artist, the reason why he decided to work with newspapers is because he views them as a medium which “embodies society’s values” of a certain historic period. They also help him “understand” the thought process of designers and engineers who took part in making the objects he replicates.
