]]>Cox uses parts of old pianos, mainly their keys, to create fascinating phoenix sculptures. His works serve as a captivating wall art while giving the instrument a new life and preserving the memories that were created with it.
“You can’t just take it to the tip and bury something like that in landfill, it’d just feel disrespectful. So for me, it’s an honor to be trusted to take something that means so much to people, and find another way it can bring some joy and beauty to a home,” Cox shared in a recent interview with New Atlas.
Cox started resurrecting old pianos almost by accident. His friend was building a recording studio and wanted to have a unique wall art to fill the space. Being a self-described “junk collector,” Cox found a set of piano keys in his studio and decided to repurpose them as a phoenix sculpture.
When people saw his first sculpture, they wanted similar artwork for themselves, so Cox kept on crafting them. He sources his material by finding old piano parts for sale, but also directly from owners who want their musical instrument turned into a lasting piece of art.
Cox recently finished his 50th phoenix sculpture and intends to keep on increasing that number as long as there are old pianos that need a new purpose. Scroll down to check out more of his works.

]]>According to Cocioba, the Airbnb host’s cat took them on a guided hike along the Appalachian Trail. He posted several photos from the adventure while noting that the feline does that with every guest that rents that particular AirBnB.
“She would complain when we took a wrong turn off the trail and knew the way back, “Cocioba wrote while adding that the cat even “judged” them at times for being too slow.
Cocioba’s post has been viewed 1.7 million times since it was posted in early March. It prompted a number of social media users to enquire about the location of the Airbnb unit, with one stating that they would travel there just to get a guided hike from the cat.
“Well now I want to know what air bnb this is because I would 100% take a trip just to hike with this cat,” wrote one user.
Backpacker magazine later reached out to the host, an herbalist and ethnobotanist Trisha Mulligan, to learn more about the four-legged hike guide. According to Mulligan, the cat is called Cinamen and has been adopted as a kitten eight years ago.
Cinamen has been hiking the Appalachian trail with Mulligan and her family for years, making her more than capable hike guide. Apparently, she became so popular among Mulligan’s guests that many of them returned just so they could have another adventure with the cat.
If you are thinking about getting a guided hike by Cinamen, note that it isn’t guaranteed that she’ll be in the mood to go up and down the trail. However, Mulligan adds that “overall, your chances are pretty good.”

]]>To create his land art, Foreman meticulously arranges hundreds of stones, making sure to align them by color, shape, and size into captivating patterns and images. Occasionally, the artist also uses other found materials like sea shells, branches, and leaves. Each piece aims to reflect his appreciation for natural beauty and pay tribute to the world that surrounds him.
Most of the time, Foreman doesn’t have a plan about how his next artwork will look like. He enters the process with an open mind, allowing the inspiration of the moment to lead him.
Creating land art isn’t just a way for Foreman to express his creativity. It also serves as a way to deal with the stress of everyday life, providing a therapeutic effect.
“Repeat processes are always very therapeutic and this is a good example of that, getting lost in the process is an important part of land art,” Foreman told Street Art News in a recent interview.
Due to weather conditions and sometimes human interference, Foreman’s land art usually doesn’t survive for long. However, the artist makes sure to capture a photo of each piece and share it with the rest of the world on his social media. Check out more of his works below.

]]>There are people out there engaging in “speed runs” of museums. The goal of these speed runs is to check all of the museum exhibitions and rooms in the shortest amount of time. Of course, this doesn’t result in a great museum visit, but at least it adds a bit more dynamic to the activity.
YouTuber Matt Herzog recently decided to test his museum speedrunning skills by visiting New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). He strapped a Go-Pro camera and recorded himself racing throughout the museum to see everything it had to offer.
Along the way, Herzog also gave himself some side quests. This includes taking a selfie with Vincent van Gogh’s iconic painting “The Starry Night,” snapping some photos of pop art for Instagram and buying something in the museum’s souvenir shop.
While Herzog fell into some time-wasting traps, like being held up by a woman on the escalator and being talked into leaving his email at the shop, he managed to “complete” the entire Museum of Modern in just 20 minutes and 17 seconds.

]]>In a rare opportunity for art collectors, one of Rembrandt’s early masterpieces has recently been put up for sale by Switzerland’s Koetser Gallery. The asking price for the painting, titled Blind Tobit with the Return of Tobias and the Archangel Raphael and dated 1628-29, is $30 million.
The piece underwent a major restoration earlier this summer and was featured in the “Chasing Rembrandt” exhibition at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum in Hartford, Connecticut. It is currently displayed at Koetser Gallery, where it will remain until the sale process is finished.
“The picture is in a remarkable state of preservation, and cleaning this past summer, after many decades, removed discolored varnish—thereby returning the painting to a pristine presentation,” David H. Koetser of Koetser Gallery said in a statement provided to ARTnews.
At one point, “Blind Tobit with the Return of Tobias and the Archangel Raphael” has been considered a work of one of Rembrandt’s pupils. But in recent times, it was determined that the painting was mostly done by Rembrandt, with one or more of his students also contributing to the piece.
The most recent Rembrandt painting to be offered for sale was a self-portrait from 1632. It went for auction in 2020, being sold for £14.5 million.

After being in construction for more than 25 years, the Kellogg Doolittle mansion was finally finished in 2014. It consists of two buildings and has an interior structure formed by 26 piers that serve as walls. There is no lumber or drywall used for the interior.
Kellogg brought in his protégé John Vugrin to handle the interior design of the mansion. Vugrin followed Kellogg’s idea, opting for natural material and twisted curvilinear shapes.
“From its hand-laid stone path to the marble, copper, and glass work inside, there is no detail about Kellogg Doolittle that is underwhelming,” it says on the official website of Kellogg Doolittle mansion. “It takes days to take it all in.
