The post Ariana Heinzman Creates Colorful and Quirky Clay Vessels appeared first on Wallpaper Data.
]]>A big reason why Heinzman’s clay vessels are so great is that the artist doesn’t strive for perfection according to her own admittance. She allows her intuition to take the driver’s seat during the process of creating a piece, resulting in one-of-a-kind creations.
Describing her work, Heinzman says it’s meant to “represent the duality of the desire to escape and succumb to nature and the desire to control nature and to be drawn into human civilization.” Her designs are based on the imagery found in nature and borrow patterns from leaves, flowers, and fruit. This is why it isn’t surprising that colors play an important part in the artist’s creative process.
“I use vibrant colors like a bird of paradise would, or perhaps a flower, or a juicy fruit; as an invitation to pick up what I am putting down, to cross-pollinate, to take a bite, etc.,” she explains.

]]>The lamp is based on a previous ceramic sculpture from the “Pop Fruit” series by Parra and comes in a shape of a bell pepper with added legs and high heels. It comes with saturated blue and pink color scheme, which looks captivating when lit up.
“The sculptural lamp features a cozy colorway that is sure to provide good vibes, mellow moods, and positive energy,” Case Studyo said about the lamp.
Unfortunately, getting your hands on this lamp will be quite challenging. There will be only 1,500 of them available, and they won’t be “first come, first served” basis. Instead, those interested in getting enter an online raffle and hope they will get a chance to own it.
This isn’t the first time that Parra and Case Studyo have collaborated on such a project. They released another Pop Fruit-inspired lamp last year. This lamp was based on a pear and was similarly sold through a raffle system.

]]>According to his website, Kupferschmidt is interested in “exploring unique approaches decorative and functional ceramics through design, color and glaze experimentation.”
Aside from working on his original pieces, Kupferschmidt is no stranger to collaborations with other artists. For example, he recently teamed up with San Francisco-based artist Calvin Wong to create vessels that combine their styles. Wong contributed with signature facial expressions on ceramics, while Kupferschmidt added the “melting” effect.
His collaboration with fellow ceramic artist Faye Hadfield has also been a complete success. Hadfield created demon-like vessels that Kupferschmidt made even scarier with his special glaze.
Philip Kupferschmidt shares his newest works and collaborations on his social media. He also runs a webshop on his website that allows people to buy his works.

“I call myself an ‘everyday designer’ or your ‘personal design consultant’ and I work very differently than any other designer I know,” she said in an interview for VoyageLA. “I instead have an initial consultation with clients and then am there every step of the way, as much or as little as they need.”

]]>Smith’s crochet works contain detailed recreations of wedding cakes and other desserts, salads, roasted meat, fish, and much more. He occasionally also ventures in crocheting cookware and other household items.
According to Smith, he inherited his love for crochet from his mother when he was just a boy.
“My mother was a talented craftswoman and I was always shadowing her, wanting to be doing what she was doing,” he shared in a recent chat with The Design Files.
After finishing art school, Smith ventured into other art mediums and later served as a council worker. Still, he honed his crochet skills, often working on crocheting items after his daily job.
But nowadays, crocheting is Smith’s only preoccupation. He retired from his council job in 2020 and decided to return to his mother’s hometown of Penola. There, he continued creating crochet food and other items, often working 14 to 16 hours a day.
“There are so many ideas running around in my head that I want to do, and it’s going to take me the rest of my life to get them all made,” Smith explains.

]]>The illustrator and designer behind the South African label Skinny laMinx (named after her Siamese cat), Moore’s recipe is simple: mix together a love of pattern, a cute shop, a top-notch team, and top it all off with equal parts playful and chic: “Pattern makes us happy, color makes us feel good!”, reads her Instagram bio, and boy do we agree.
Moore’s blooming business began relatively small. After 10 years of freelancing, she opened a blog and an Etsy shop in 2007, where she sold her simple, clear screen printed tea towels and hand-cut fridge magnets. By 2009 the business was so busy with retail and wholesale orders that she quit her comics-writing job.
These days, her brand includes a store and studio in Cape Town, where Moore employs a team of 15 women. Her product range has also grown over the years and now includes anything from pillows to furniture, becoming a beloved lifestyle brand both home and abroad.
Ever the creative, when it comes to inspiration, Moore admits she finds plenty of it: “It’s kind of silly to say this, but I really am inspired by just about anything and everything!”, she admitted once in an interview with Sweet Paul Magazine.
She noted that she’s inspired by things such as the holes in a piece of cheese, her dreams and desires while flipping through an IKEA catalog, ancient rock art on cave walls, and the dishes on her shelves at home.
All of Skinny laMinx’s designs are screen printed in Cape Town (with an added dose of African chic), and everything is cut and stitched by a small sewing team in the studio above our shop, making her products both ethical and local. “In general, I like design that is concise and fits its purpose,” says Moore. “If it manages to do these things while being elegantly exuberant too, that makes me happy.”

]]>Painted with Holbein Acryla gouache, her illustrations present everyday objects alongside more magical and mysterious settings. To get her creative juices flowing, Bryksenkova reads and spends ample time around art and nature. She also does what Virginia Woolf called “street haunting”. By the time she’s back at her desk, she’s excited to get started.
“I like to research a new project and prepare by collecting images on Pinterest or flipping through my reference books,” she adds, explaining the creative process itself. “Once I have some ideas, I sketch thumbnails to determine composition and then move on to a larger, more detailed sketch. I use a light box to lightly trace the sketch onto watercolor paper and then move on the final painting.”
“My gradual change in medium has affected my style more than anything else,” she notes. “Also, whereas my early work always defaulted to mostly blue tones, I’ve learned to incorporate a broader range of colors and create more interesting combinations by consciously limiting my palettes to just two or three hues.”

]]>Describing herself as a fiber-obsessed maker, Moodie is best known for applying unexpected color combinations to her nostalgic textile designs. Working between Melbourne and Brooklyn, NY, she divides her time between designing and creating woven wall hangings, developing weaving kits, and teaching sold-out workshops across the world.
“Weaving is something that I am passionate about and get great pleasure from, and so I am able to use my expertise in education to share this passion with others,” she says. “I do love the art of weaving, but the best and most important part of my work is in education. The love and inspiration and energy that I get from my students is the most important part in moving this craft forward and creating newness.”
According to her website, her work is greatly inspired by the intricacies of vintage textiles, traditional costuming, and modern art, as well as the natural world. With a whopping 120k followers on Instagram, and features in publications like New York Magazine, Anthology, and O Magazine – Moodie clearly knows what she’s doing.

]]>Whether it’s her acting or her designing, Zaremba aims to make people happy. A worthy goal if any. “I want my art to have an overall essence of joy, of whimsy, or even humor,” she told in an interview with The House That Lars Built. “I started making wallpaper because I loved the idea that my work could be a backdrop to someone’s life.”
Her wallpapers have a nostalgic quality to them, with an added contemporary twist that makes them pop. “I actually approach an idea or project by thinking about the right process to bring it to life,” says Zaremba. “So if I want to create a pattern that looks like paper cut shapes then I will cut them out of paper. If I want to make a wallpaper design that is hand-painted then I will get out a paintbrush and paint it. I look to the idea as the jumping-off point to creating versus sticking with one particular ‘style.’”
The result is the kind of backdrop that will get your creative juices flowing. Either that, or just make your room feel brighter.
