You would expect that Van der Zwaag uses some kind of video to create his videos, but it turns out he just uses practical effects like mirrors and perception. According to him, he starts with a basic premise in front of a camera and then expands on the initial idea.

“It’s like sketching; you do not necessarily know exactly how it is going to look in the end,” – he said in a recent interview. “I start with a hypothesis; there is an idea, but it never turns out to be that. It will never be exactly what I imagined it to become in the beginning.”
