Filmmaker Creates Mind-Bending Videos Using Practical Effects

Rogier van der Zwaag is an Amsterdam-based filmmaker who has been wowing social media users with his mind-bending videos. Van der Zwaag creates mesmerizing clips that feature objects and shadows turning and moving in unexpected ways which can be really captivating.

You would expect that Van der Zwaag uses some kind of video to create his videos, but it turns out he just uses practical effects like mirrors and perception. According to him, he starts with a basic premise in front of a camera and then expands on the initial idea.

“It’s like sketching; you do not necessarily know exactly how it is going to look in the end,” – he said in a recent interview. “I start with a hypothesis; there is an idea, but it never turns out to be that. It will never be exactly what I imagined it to become in the beginning.”

After becoming popular on social media, Van der Zwaag caught the attention of CNN with the media giant deciding to do a story about him. You can check it out along with more of his works below.
