Katy Stubbs’ Ceramics Are Out of the Ordinary

Cape Town-born, London-based, Katy Stubbs makes quirky ceramic pieces that give us life. Inspired by the Simpsons, Edward Gorey, and Annie Proulx, her art doesn’t take itself too seriously. In fact, it doesn’t seem to take itself seriously at all.

“I love that I can make all aspects of a piece,” said Stubbs in an interview with Horst und Edeltraut Magazine. “It’s not just painting on to a canvas that already has a set form. I get to use the ceramic shapes to help tell my story.” And if her ceramics could tell a story it would be a joy to read.

Originally trained in illustration (with a BFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York), she works out of her studio in Brixton, creating anything and everything from cups and plates to jugs and vases, but with an added Katy Stubbs twist.

Check out some of her comical designs in the gallery below.
