Lauren Martin’s Illustrations Put Retro Twist on Our Favorite Comfort Foods

Lauren Martin embarked on quite a transformative journey since becoming an artist, but her distinctive style is now impossible to ignore. Her adorable illustrations are infused with a sense of nostalgia, and they’re doing a great job of putting a retro twist on our favorite comfort foods.

Lauren Martin is an illustrator from New York, who spent years trying to carve out her distinctive artistic style. She studied fine arts after high school, but struggled to find herself in this sort of artistic expression until she started making artwork for her band Frankie Cosmos – and something finally clicked!

“I think my current style is most similar to how I drew as a kid… It wasn’t until I started designing and screen-printing merch for my band that I started to channel some of that childhood artistic energy. My work became a lot more playful, and I think it’s continuing to get looser and weirder with time,” she told Print Magazine.

After taking a hiatus from music during the pandemic, Martin dived back into the world of illustration and made a name for herself with her feel-good art. Her signature anthropomorphic characters usually take the shape of food, and she wants her illustrations to capture the humor and joy that can be found in day-to-day life.
