]]>Jewett’s sculptures combine the features of animals and plants in a way that makes them look like they came straight out of a fantasy movie. There are turtles with trees growing on their back, deer with branches and twigs instead of horns, and wolves covered with flowers as part of their fur.
Jewett mostly creates smaller sculptures that fit in the palm of one’s hand. But despite this, she manages to pack each piece with an astonishing amount of details. In order to do so, she relies on her formal studies in fine art, anthropology, and zoology, as well as work experience in medical illustration and exotic animal care.
“Plants and animals have always been the surface on which humans have etched the foundations of culture, sustenance, and identity. For myself, natural forms are a continual source of fascination and deep aesthetic pleasure,” Jewett explains on her website.
