Polish artist Luiza Niechoda creates one-of-a-kind oil paintings of landscapes. They show natural scenery but regularly feature a glitch.

The glitches found in Niechoda’s artworks come in the form of pixelization. They looked like they were loading on a computer but never managed to finish the process. However, there is no digital touch component to their creation; they are made just like every other traditional oil painting.

Niechoda achieves this effect with her unorthodox approach to painting: she always looks to incorporate geometrical shapes into her paintings and uses only vertical and horizontal brushstrokes. This unique style was influenced by the artist’s background as an engineer in geodesy and cartography.

“I know my pieces are landscapes, but in my head, they’re feelings. The reason I translate these feelings into views is my love for the Pacific Northwest (I might have watched too much Twilight as a teenager) and the work of artists like Friedrich or Turner,” Niechoda shares on her website. “I definitely see my work becoming more and more abstract in the future.”

Niechoda’s unique art made its way to private and public collections all over the world. The artist also regularly updates her social media pages with new work. Check out more of them below.

Myrna Quiñonez is a talented Mexican artist who currently resides in Bristol, UK. She is best known for her landscape paintings that look familiar and mysterious at the same time.

In her artworks, Quiñonez captures places she has visited and seen before. However, she presents them in a fragmented way, omitting key elements and disguising familiarity with blurry and distorted elements.

The essence of Quiñonez’s approach is her goal of exploring the relationship of people with landscapes in the age of technology. Nowadays, we experience breathtaking sights mostly through screens, distorting our perception and resulting memories of them. Additionally, artists no longer need to go outdoors to create landscape paintings as they are just a few clicks away from accessing a photo of a landscape that shows it in perfect condition.

“I explore landscape, repetitive patterns in nature, traditional oil painting and the impact that new media, screens and technology have on us, changing how we perceive the world,” Quiñonez explains on her website. “As a result my paintings look like images edited on a computer. Absence, fragmentation and movement are characteristics of my work.”
