Many artists turn to nature when looking for inspiration, but no one is doing it like Robert Steven Connett. He made a name for himself with his incredibly intricate drawings, that will take you to a world of magic and wonder that’s filled with the most vibrant life forms you’ll ever come across.

Connett’s life story proves that it’s never too late to become an artist since he worked in many different industries before becoming a full-time artist in his 50s. After losing his home in a fire, he decided to leave his career in insurance behind and worked several failed jobs before finding his true calling as an artist.

He started drawing because he loves seeing his imagination come to life and the process of creating art brings him peace that he can’t attain any other way.

“[My art is] still how I illustrate my feelings about the world, but it’s modified by my wish to create order and beauty. I use my work as a vehicle to take me to another world, one of my own creation. I’m honored to share that world and thrilled that others can relate to it in their own way,” he explains on his official website.

Connett’s drawings will transport you to a whimsical world that takes inspiration from our own while also looking completely unique and magical. Most of them are inspired by the endless beauty of the natural world and show insects, reptiles, birds, and other animals in a way we’ve never seen them before.

Katie Brooks fell in love with the delicate nature of leaves and found a way for their beauty to echo through eternity. This landscape artist from North Carolina found her true calling when she started using leaves as her canvas for her magical miniature works of art.

Brooks has enjoyed collecting leaves for as long as she can remember, and her childhood notebooks were filled with them. She’s always been a creative soul and worked in galleries and classrooms where she was constantly surrounded by art, but it took a while for her to summon the courage to create her own.

Brooks’s signature project “100 Painted Leaves Collection” helped her rediscover her love for art. It involved painting a leaf each day for 100 days, and this growing collection helped her solidify her path as an artist.

Brooks’ artistic process starts with choosing leaves in the forest near her home in North Carolina, and it takes about a month for them to dry before she’s ready to prep them with acrylic gesso and get to painting.

“The leaves I paint are chosen based on a number of factors. Typically, I’m looking for sturdy, intact leaves with a good shape for my composition. However, sometimes the leaf itself determines the composition, especially if the location it comes from is part of the piece!” she writes on her official website.

Magic can be found everywhere around you if you pay attention, and Caroline Dewison’s dioramas are inviting you to take a closer look. She’s the founder of A House of Wonders, which specializes in making whimsical miniatures that will take you deep into the woods.

Dewison is an artist from Warrington, England, and her miniature dioramas are mostly inspired by the natural beauty of the forest surrounding her home. Discovering this art form was somewhat of a happy accident – she was initially experimenting with beads and clay and sourcing materials from model railways, before deciding to take them to the next level.

“I specialize in the use of miniatures and dioramas to create magical and enchanting pieces of art inspired by the natural world, past, present, and future. My passion is to create secret places and hidden worlds, where nature reigns supreme, transporting viewers through miniature portals to a realm of fantasy and imagination,” she writes on her official website.

Dewison now uses a wide range of different materials to bring her dioramas to life, from acrylic paint and clay to laser-cut plywood and 3D-printing pens. They usually depict breathtaking nature scenes, but Dewison also enjoys adding UFOs to the mix to give them an outlandish feel and evoke the feeling we’re not alone in the universe.
