There’s No Shortage of Color in DQ’s Illustrations

Illustrator Diyou Wu (aka Decue Wu or DQ) is known for her vibrant work, providing a colorful interpretation of the world around her. “I love drawing, I wanted to make my hobby into a career,” she relayed in an interview with Illustration Ltd. Thankfully, her dream came true, and much sooner than she expected.

Currently Airbnb’s illustrator and art director, Wu has also collaborated with giants that include Louis Vuitton, Armani Exchange, Audi, and Amazon Kindle, all by the age of 29. Her work is a mixture of both analog and digital tools. While most of it is done digitally, she also combines hand-made textures, screenprinting, and collage work to give her illustrations an extra dimension.

Born in China, and currently based in LA, she studied Digital Media Art at the Zhejiang University of Media and Communications, after which she has received her MFA in Illustration Practice from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has since been exhibited across China and the US and has won numerous awards.

With so much going for her, it’s little wonder her illustrations are so bright and delightful.
