]]>Laramée uses various carving methods, including high-pressure water, to alter old encyclopedias and dictionaries. He then paints them to resemble rocky formations seen in nature.
From afar, these pieces look like mountain landscapes, similar to ones found in Pico da Caledônia national park, which the artist sees through the windows of his studio. But when looked closer, the remains of covers, pages, bindings, and titles are still clearly visible.
“Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills,“ Laramée explains in his artist statement. “Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply IS. Fogs and clouds erase everything we know, everything we think we are.”
Laramée displayed his intriguing book transformations in numerous exhibitions around the world, including his native Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. He also frequently shares his newest pieces on social media. Check out more of them below.

]]>McGarrity is the mastermind behind the Instagram page @a_warm_garlic_yurt, and she’s using the power of social media to share her stitching talent with the world. She’s an associate teaching professor from the Pacific Northwest who dabbled with many forms of fiber art before discovering embroidery.
McGarrity sees nature as her main source of inspiration, and it’s not a coincidence that her embroidery hoops represent animals in the most vibrant light.
“Animals are a very traditional subject, so I like adding my own ‘flavor’ to a piece by reinterpreting them with different palettes. I still feel like I’m learning the craft, so I like creating things using a variety of stitches and techniques,” she told My Modern Met.
McGarrity wants her embroidery art to resemble paintings because she believes there’s a natural connection between these two art forms. That’s the main reason why she adopted an elaborate layering technique, building an image stitch by stitch with one color of thread at a time.

]]>The project, curated by art consulting firm Justkids, aims to inspire appreciation for nature and raise awareness about biodiversity conservation.
To create this imposing mural, which spans 35,000 square feet, Mantra needed 400 hours while using 200 gallons of paint. Aside from exclusively using rollers and striving for great detail and precision, the artist also had to overcome various challenges like the unique location, strong winds, and the damp effect caused by the ocean that threatened the piece.
“It’s always a pleasure to paint in Miami, a city that thrives on its mix of people and cultures—much like the butterflies in my mural, which represent a diverse selection of specimens. This is my largest mural to date, and I am excited to see it come to life,” Mantra said in a statement.
The mural is located at the top of Southeast Financial Center in downtown Miami and can be enjoyed best from the top floors of the surrounding buildings. Or you can simply climb on top to examine it up and close.

]]>Mata’s works show detailed desert landscapes featuring rocks, dunes, and various shapes and sizes of cacti that are suddenly distorted or stretched into unrecognizable streams of color.
According to the artist, he aims to explore the human perception of reality and the way our mind plays tricks on us when we watch something for too long.
“The paintings are all about the glitch and the error, when your eyes look too long at the same thing your mind makes the change” Mata shares.
Mata collaborates with artificial intelligence to create his artworks. He makes notes of his experiences related to landscapes and then uses AI software to generate images based on them. Lastly, he reworks and edits these images and then uses them as a reference for his paintings.
“I meticulously document dreams, sensations, and experiences related to landscapes, either in the form of texts, ideas, poems, haikus, photographs, drawings, etc. Once the information has been compiled, I generate a dialogue with the artificial intelligence in which I seek to share and explain situations and self-referential experiences in a limited way,” Mata explains on his website.

Once Kaido, who is usually nestled in a bike chair or a backpack on Matty’s back, hears the sirens, he immediately starts howling. Matty refers to this type of sound as “awoo,” which lets others know that they should pay attention and let the emergency vehicles pass.
Matty has been sharing the videos of Kaido’s “awoos” on TikTok, and judging by the comments, the internet users love it.
“He is putting his whole heart and soul in it. Look at his head going so far back,” one TikToker commented.
“The little paw on your shoulder, the full head tilt back for the howl, hair blowing in the wind, and stranger joining in! This video is happiness,” another added.

]]>Gore spent years working as a mental health therapist, career coach, and university instructor before discovering his passion for art. He was in his late 30s when he stumbled upon a social media challenge to share a 1”x1” sketch every day for a month, and he decided to keep going even after the challenge was over.
“Often drawing inside only an inch or two, I’m inspired by the challenge to create more while consuming less. My miniature art demonstrates how constraints can enhance creativity while encouraging a more sustainable experience for the earth, the artist, and art lovers alike,” he told Strathmore Artist Papers.
Gore embraced the beauty of lifelong learning, honing his skills at the breakfast table, crafting his tiny drawings with nothing but 0.15mm pen nib and tiny canvases. Gore’s versatility is as impressive as his attention to detail, and we’ve seen him celebrate the beauty of nature through his body of work, while also putting a miniature twist on some of his favorite paintings.
