]]>Hupalo is the mastermind behind the jewelry brand Namystynky, which she founded with her sister Oksana. They have both studied art design at the Lviv Academy of Arts in Ukraine, and their love for beaded jewelry inspired them to start their own brand.
“Initially, creating jewelry was our long-standing hobby, but after our art school training, we decided to launch a small business… My jewelry design focuses on decorative ornaments of Eastern Europe and other regions. I have also developed unique designs,” she explains on her Etsy page.
The most amazing thing about Namystynky’s beaded earrings is that they often celebrate the amazing works of art that we all know and love. Hupalo uses colorful beads to recreate some of the most recognizable masterpieces in the world, and we’ve seen her create jewelry inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Edgar Degas’ Dancers, and many more famous works of art.

According to McLaughlin, this is a passion project and a way to express his creativity. However, it also helps her generate ideas for her day job.
“I truly love the idea of personal projects, and I encourage everyone to do them, even if you’re not a designer,” she shares. “It’s self-gratification, and nobody can tell you you’re wrong because it’s yours!”
McLaughlin’s fashion items can sometimes look a bit over-the-top or downright bizarre. However, this is purposely so as it allows the designer to challenge the fashion norms. Her message to observers is to look at her creations with an open mind and not to take them “too seriously.”

]]>Drummond started his journey in the jewelry industry in 2014 when he started making pieces with the wire wrapping technique. After finding great success, he continued to develop his craft and expand his portfolio. This led him to give lapidary, the art of shaping gemstones, a try, and it proved a great decision.
Drummond discovered that he enjoyed gem-cutting much and made it his primary focus. He even used his background in mechanics to develop special methods that allowed him to create complex patterns and geometric shapes that couldn’t be seen anywhere else.
Nowadays, Drummond creates both unique gemstones and jewelry pieces at his Las Vegas-based store Drummond Gems & Jewelry.
“His vision for each piece is to bring to life a concept; and to encapsulate it as a luxurious talisman for the collector to behold as a reminder of the story it tells,” it says on Drummond’s official website.

]]>A vintage fashion lover, Trantham was tired of spending lots of money for one-of-a-kind items and having to sift through thrift shops to find them, so she did what any crafty person would do and started making her own clothes.
She’s been sewing for almost seven years, but she was especially motivated to pursue her passion when she was stuck at home during quarantine. “I just started really experimenting with clothing this year! When quarantine hit, I had a ton of time to practice and make a bunch of projects,” she told Bored Panda.
Trantham was drawn to thrifting as a way to save money and to help the environment. She also just loves the thrill of finding amazing pieces. She limits her spending to $10 on an item and luckily, the dresses at her local Goodwill in Jacksonville, North Carolina range from four to six dollars and the skirts are only three dollars. At her local Salvation Army, the items are a bit more expensive so that’s when she limits herself.
So what does she lookout for when thrifting? “Embroidery, a fun vintage print, embellishments or anything else that could make a garment special,” she explained. “Then, I analyze the material — am I going to be able to manipulate this? Is it going to fight me? The last thing I look at is closures: buttons and zippers, all that stuff. I need to make sure they can be moved or altered to fit my ideas.”

]]>But surprisingly enough, jewelry design didn’t come naturally for Zwart. “It was an unexpected passion that caught me off-guard,” she shared in an interview with Vogue. “I had moved to Guatemala to work for a fair-trade accessories non-profit that worked with local artisans to create jewelry & home goods. There was a lot of metal working going on there, and Guatemala has a lot of natural stones that I was drawn to.”
It was there on the shores of Lake Atitlan that she began to study the art of jewelry metal working and was immediately enamored with the notion of being able to sculpt pieces from the ground up that can be worn every day. “After a series of events I started studying metal working on the weekends to make jewelry and fell head over heels in love with it,” she notes. “It was all I thought about from then on.”
Zwart’s design aesthetic is characterized by her fresh perspective and restrained approach. Her pieces feel modern and interesting, yet effortlessly wearable, with influences that include the French Art Deco era as well as her fascination with ancient civilizations. “It is fascinating to me when I walk into a museum and see gold coins, necklaces, earrings and bracelets from thousands of years ago and know that they meant so much to someone,” she says. “As a status symbol, as something they treasured personally, as something that was passed down from generation to generation. This is what inspired me to go into fine jewelry. The allure of creating something that lasts.”

According to Toledano (and we couldn’t agree more), to put on a new pair of shoes gives you confidence. “It’s the ultimate feminine accessory,” she notes. “My collection of shoes is like a family; they have some elements in common—the shape, structure—but they all have their own personality.”
Fuelled by their love for multi-artistic mediums, Nodaleto emerges as a creative label that goes beyond shoes. Made in Venice, in the purest Italian tradition, Nodaleto emphasises the nobility of materials and their quality. The leathers are varnished and aged, with an added splash of tangerine tang – the emblematic color of the brand. “I get my inspiration from furniture design, to architecture, a very famous teenage movie from the ’00s or TV shows like Friends,” says Toledano.

But I think art directors are trying to choose artists who they can tell will be right for the job and that includes being interested. So all of my jobs have been pretty good to me, nice problems to solve.”
With her jewelry work, she combines both her passion for illustration and metalwork, turning her drawings and ideas into unique pieces of jewelry. All pieces start out as models hand carved in wax, which are then cast and finished individually by hand in her studios (based in London and New York). The work is intended to show signs of being handmade, nothing too clean or too perfect, with the process being part of the finished product.
“Making jewelry started as very much an experiment, a hobby,” Blegvad admits. “A friend showed me how to work with casting wax, and as soon as I got my first pieces back I was hooked. It is still so cool to make something and have it transformed into metal. I never get bored of that.”
“I’ve always been interested in meaning being attributed to objects, to wearing things that have some sort of power or story behind them,” she adds. “I’m just lucky that other people seem to want to wear them too.”
