The post Millie Putland’s Illustrations Are Putting a Vibrant Twist on American Cities appeared first on Wallpaper Data.
]]>Putland started her journey as an illustrator during the pandemic while looking for a way to keep her sense of wanderlust alive.
“Illustrating wanderlust travel art and bright and bold prints and stationery to keep my mind off of the pandemic and the anxieties that we were all faced with. It seems I was making a lot of people smile as my work reminded them of those precious memories with loved ones or moments in time you want to remember forever,” she writes on her official website.
She wants her illustrations to make people dream of new places, and many of them are inspired by her travels. Her travel prints pay homage to many dreamy destinations she has visited over the years, from Paris and Santorini to Palma Mallorca and the Amalfi Coast.
Putland recently kicked off her “American City” collection, and we’ve seen her capture the vibrant spirit of several metropolises in her unique style. Chicago was the first city on her agenda, and she went on to illustrate Nashville, Charleston, New York, and Boston.

Pearn’s illustrations mostly focus on “lovingly illustrated animals with big hearts and big dreams” and they’re inspired by things she loves most in life.
“I love wild walks in the woods, across the meadows, and along the coast. I like to feel the wind in my hair, the rain on my face and the sun on my back, and to come home to this cozy little space,” she writes on her Etsy page.

]]>Säfström is an illustrator and author based in Stockholm, Sweden, who enjoyed expressing herself creatively from a young age. She decided to pursue her passion for drawing by studying architecture but never felt comfortable enough in this arena until she started experimenting with abstract elements.
Säfström eventually made a shift to illustration, and this was the best decision she’s ever made. She used the power of social media to build an impressive following under the moniker @majasbok and published several books of her work, including The Illustrated Compendium of Amazing Animal Facts.
Most of Säfström’s illustrations are inspired by situations she faced in her everyday life, and that’s what makes them so relatable. She enjoys combining text with drawings and using her witty speech bubbles to say it like it is.
Animals take center stage in many of her illustrations, and that’s not a coincidence. She enjoys creating characters with an emotion or expression and keeping them a bit ambivalent so anyone could relate to what they’re saying and going through.

]]>Connett’s life story proves that it’s never too late to become an artist since he worked in many different industries before becoming a full-time artist in his 50s. After losing his home in a fire, he decided to leave his career in insurance behind and worked several failed jobs before finding his true calling as an artist.
He started drawing because he loves seeing his imagination come to life and the process of creating art brings him peace that he can’t attain any other way.
“[My art is] still how I illustrate my feelings about the world, but it’s modified by my wish to create order and beauty. I use my work as a vehicle to take me to another world, one of my own creation. I’m honored to share that world and thrilled that others can relate to it in their own way,” he explains on his official website.
Connett’s drawings will transport you to a whimsical world that takes inspiration from our own while also looking completely unique and magical. Most of them are inspired by the endless beauty of the natural world and show insects, reptiles, birds, and other animals in a way we’ve never seen them before.

]]>Velez is the mastermind behind the Instagram page The Headlessketcher, and his fascination with art and animals has always gone hand in hand. He spent countless hours as a child browsing through wildlife encyclopedias and trying to copy the illustrations he found inside, treasuring all that nature had to offer.
Many years later, Velez’s art is still inspired by the beauty of the natural world, and he wants his illustrations to evoke a sense of exploration and discovery.
“Drawing parallels to scientific illustration, I delve into meticulous research and attention to detail to capture the unique characteristics of each animal I paint. However, I refrain from pursuing a rigid realistic representation, striving to maintain a unique feeling of artistic identity in my work,” he writes on his official website.
Velez mostly uses pen drawing, colored pencils, and watercolor in his work, tailoring his technique to each new piece. Even though his approach to art is constantly evolving, his illustrations are instantly recognizable by the hand-written notes that give them an encyclopedic feel.

]]>Chroma is a digital pop artist from Toronto, who embarked on quite a journey before finding his true calling and attracting over 190,000 followers to his Instagram page. He got his degree in fine art and psychology at the University of Waterloo before switching his attention to architecture during his master’s studies, but eventually decided to stick to thriving as a digital artist.
Chroma’s body of work explores the threshold between the iconic and the anonymous, and that’s one of the reasons why many of his illustrations put celebrities front and center.
“This tension between human and object has always been an inspiration to Nashid and his art responds to this phenomenon. Celebrities are real people with emotions, insecurities, and dreams – but they are also idols of secular worship and adoration,” he writes on his official website.
Chroma’s illustrations are instantly recognizable thanks to their floral and geometric elements, and using them isn’t a coincidence. He wants these adornments to humanize his subjects, while also giving them an abstract feel and making them look disconnected and object-like.

]]>Rosa is an Italian illustrator, whose decision to keep her work 100% real and honest helped her build a community of 700,000 Instagram followers. She enjoys using her body of work to explore a wide range of topics close to her heart, from body positivity and double standards to mental health.
Rosa’s drawings will give you a peak inside her head, and she describes them as her personal venting session that allows her to show the twists and turns of my everyday life.
“I’d love for people to be able to relate, to go ‘Hey, that’s totally me!’ It makes me feel less alone. There’s an Italian saying: ‘mal comune mezzo gaudio,’ which roughly translates to ‘a trouble shared is a trouble halved.’ It’s all about finding common ground and sharing the load, you know?” she told Bored Panda.
Even though she’s no stranger to exploring the dark side of life, Rosa’s style is pretty lively and vivid since she enjoys experimenting and playing with color. In addition to sharing her work online, Rosa also illustrated several books and created a series of products inspired by her drawings, including prints, puzzles, phone cases, tote bags, and more.

]]>Using photos as references, Kang tries to imagine how particular animals would look in their human form. She aims to combine both the physical features of animals and their personality traits into the final design, which has led to some unusual results.
For example, one of Kang’s illustrations sees a Chrysilla jumping spider transformed into a nightclub DJ. Both are colorful and have an affinity for spinning; the spider for spinning its web, and DJ for spinning records.
Kang got the inspiration for the series thanks to memory games Do You Look Like Your Cat? and Do You Look Like Your Dog? in which the players need to pair pictures of owners and their pets. Playing these games allowed Kang to realize how much humans and their furry friends can look like each other and prompted her to start creating these unique works.
“I focus on highlighting the unique quirks and charm of both the animal and the human they’re inspired by,” Kang shared in a recent chat with Bored Panda. “I carefully emphasize traits that bring out humor and authenticity, creating a connection between the animal’s personality and the human interpretation.”
