L.A. based artist Matthew Grabelsky did a series of paintings that show some amusing New York City subway users. The subjects of his surreal portraits are people from the neck down, but their heads belong to various animals, domestic and wild.
Grabelsky grew up in NYC and was always fascinated by Greek mythology and the way human nature can be represented by animals. “The characters are symbolic of the kinds of thoughts that lie under the surface of people’s minds, and they reveal that the most extraordinary can exist in the most ordinary of everyday settings,” he told Prohbtd.
The artist got his BA in Art and Art History. He graduated from Rice University in 2002 with high honors. Since then, his work has been shown in numerous exhibitions around the world.
