Animal sculptures are not a rarity in the art world, but Josh Gluckstein is making them with materials that most other artists dismiss. He’s using discarded paper and cupboards to bring awareness to endangered species through his recyclable animal sculptures.

Gluckstein is an artist based in London, who’s been fascinated with animals for as long as he can remember. He traveled and volunteered through Asia, Africa, and South America over the years, and these experiences informed his journey as an artist.

He now specializes in capturing the essence of animals that crossed his path through life-sized sculptures made with recycled materials.

“I have continually strived to make my practice more and more sustainable, and my new collection is made entirely of recycled cardboard and paper. Its accessibility and versatility allow me to bring the animal to life and capture their character and intriguing beauty while creating zero waste,” explains Gluckstein on his official website.

In addition to putting an effort into making his artwork as eco-friendly as possible, he also hopes his body of work will raise awareness about endangered species, contributing to their preservation. His works of art often take shape of lions, elephants, and rhinos that have been hunted for years in the African wilderness.

Some artists have a fantastic talent to see art where other people may see trash, and Matt Wilson is one of them. Based in South Carolina, Wilson uses old silverware to create stunning sculptures of birds and other animals. He then connects the sculptures to pieces of wood to complete the work and we’re in love with the final result.

His art is rustic, minimalistic, and beautiful. It’s incredible to think that he can simply take old forks and spoons and then turn them into something artistic, but that’s exactly what inspires and motivates him. “The upcycled work I create is a testimony to the belief of conserving and appreciating our resources,” My Modern Met cited him.

You can see some of his sculptures below and find more on his Instagram page, where he has over 100k followers. He also sells the pieces, and you can get them on Etsy.

Montreal-based fashion designer Raku Inoue has been arranging a variety of plant and flowers to create animal sculptures for years now. He used natural materials to form various display of animals and insects then photographed and shared them in his Instagram account.

This time he takes his craft to a more innovative arrangement. In his ongoing Natura series, the artist goes white in his floral creations as he dedicate this to his stepfather who just passed away.

In the series, he uses flower petals, stems and leaves to form tigers, owls, beetles and butterflies, taking advantage of the natural shapes of his raw materials to create these lively illustrations.
