Originating in Germany in the early 20th century as an artistic movement, Bauhaus took a unique approach to art and architecture. Its aim was to combine an individual vision of art and design with functionality and mass production.

Bauhaus remains influential in modern times, with its principles still being used in architecture, product design, and art. It also serves as an inspiration for artists, who are applying Bauhaus to their works in an unexpected way.

One of them is Australian artist Elisha, aka Bauhaus Your Haus. She creates artworks in which, as she puts it, “Bauhaus design meets pop culture.” These artworks use recognizable elements of Bauhaus design, including clean lines, bold colors, and simple geometric shapes.

Elisha’s art features depictions of celebrities, superheroes, and characters from movies, TV shows, and video games. The list includes retired sprinter Usain Bolt, Lieutenant Commander Data from Star Trek: Next Generation, the version of superhero Wolverine from the X-Men ’97 animated series, Heath Ledgers’ version of the villain Joker, Captain Horatio Magellan Crunch aka Cap’n Crunch, and many more.

Elisha shares her newest creations on social media and offers them as posters on her Etsy shop. You can check them out by scrolling below.

This time, the Paris-based illustrator combines her favorite cartoons into a single drawing, creating a one-of-a-kind character.

Some combinations can be recognized immediately while others are difficult. In her “Fusion Challenge,” Bouderbala asked her followers to name the two characters that are fused together. Can you identify one?

Digital artist Andrea Tamme, aka Lothlelan, loves pop culture and art history. She found clever way to combine her two interests by recreating iconic paintings with pop culture characters as subjects.

Lothlelan’s illustrations not only gave an exciting twist to the traditional art but also provides creative opportunity for the younger ones to have a better understanding of the masterpieces from history.

‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ (1665) by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer was replaced by Princess Peach from the Super Mario Bros. Edvard Munch’s The Scream (1893) was recreated with Rick and Morty characters, while ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’(1750) by English painter Thomas Gainsborough was altered by inserting Lemongrab and company. Scroll down to see more of his creations.
