The post Studio Ghibli Theme Park Will Open its Doors in Late 2022 appeared first on Wallpaper Data.
]]>Studio Ghibli announced on their social media that the first Studio Ghibli theme park is set to open its doors to visitors on November 1, 2022.
The park draws inspiration from memorable scenes from Studio Ghibli movies, and the idea is to focus on sightseeing instead of rides. Some of the content includes Mei and Satsuki’s house from My Neighbor Totoro, the dining area from Spirited Away, and a replica of Irontown from Princess Mononoke.
Studio Ghibli theme park will be located in Aichi Earth Expo Memorial Park, situated in the city of Nagakute. The area’s tourism bureau has already started with the promotion campaign by releasing a video that showcases some of the park’s scenery.
According to the official announcement, the theme park will consist out of five areas, each dedicated to a certain movie or common motifs in Studio Ghibli’s works. Three areas – Springtime of Life Hill, Ghibli Warehouse, and Dondoko Forest – will be available on an opening day.
The remaining two, Mononoke’s Village Area and Witches’ Valley Area, are still under construction and won’t be open to the public until 2023.

]]>The post Introduce an Element of Play to Your Life with Chiaozza appeared first on Wallpaper Data.
]]>We were recently reminded of the benefits of playtime through and Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao’s art. Known collectively as Chiaozza, the two treat art as their personal playground, experimenting with a range of mediums that include sculpture, installation, collage, design, and public art.
“We like to play together, experiment together, and use materials as the balls in the game, so to speak,” shared the couple in an interview with Matter of Hand. “Play means giving ourselves permission to do whatever we want and craft means the editors in us coming out and mediating the making process,” they explain. “But play and craft are in constant flux in our practice.”
According to Chiao, they use natural and synthetic materials, treating both as sources of inspirations. “The materials can be paint, paper, brush, string glue; anything we can guide together to make an image,” they note.
According to the duo, their projects are inspired by intersections of the natural and imagined worlds, highlighting the magic that can be found in the everyday. “We might agree that the spectrum of natural versus artificial is continuous,” says Chiao.
“A lot of the things that we’re attracted to come from the ‘man-made’ or ‘utilitarian’ world versus the ‘natural’ world. So they’re two descriptors that we use but they often flow into each other.”
Founded long before the pandemic, back in 2011, the couple have since exhibited their collaborative work in solo exhibitions in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, in numerous group shows around the US, and in a variety of art and design venues internationally.

]]>Based in New York, Archambault’s ongoing series began while living in Portland. “The whole series started with the Portland map,” he shared in an interview with the Ohh Deer blog. “Portland is a pretty geniusly designed city with very simple radial divisions. There were a few unclear things in my mind, so I made a map to help me explain the city as a whole. Just a few lines and some circles.”
According to Archambault, his original inspiration came from the book The Image of the City by Kevin Lynch, wherein Lynch describes elements that make up the experience of a city. |The aesthetic of the maps comes from my experience as a letterpress printer, using only type and lines,” he adds. “I actually have no formal graphic design training which shows when I try to do things like make a catalog or design a webpage. I would never get hired as a designer. Everything I learned is from type-setting in letterpress printing, which is a totally antiquated (went out of style in the 1950’s), and in hindsight, was probably a waste of time.”
His process includes traveling all over the world, meeting people, and exploring cities. After asking residents a lot of questions and thinking really really hard, he assembles to map, referencing current and past maps. “As much as I would love to think that I really get to ‘know’ a place after a week there, I really don’t,” admits Archambault. “It takes years to really unearth a mental map of a city. I still travel quite a bit and always learn about the design of the city. Almost every city has a museum that outlines its history and I usually go.”
Still, his maps are very pretty to look at. Something to hang in your office for inspiration, perhaps.

]]>Unsurprisingly, the cafe is extremely popular among Instagram users who visit Bangkok. It was open in 2012 and it’s still a one of a kind place that you can exclusively visit in this city, with no branches or franchises anywhere else. Depending on where you live, it’s probably far away; but if you’re visiting Thailand make sure to check it out! Until then, enjoy the magical photos from Unicorn Cafe’s Instagram page.

]]>“Discovering the world and moving abroad has been in my mind from a young age,” she shared in an interview with The Glossary. “Growing up, I managed to find a way to combine my studies and then work with traveling.”
“Coming from an immigrant and working class background it felt completely unrealistic to pursue art after high school, especially in France,” Koman added. “Moreover, I didn’t have anyone around me doing a creative job as a career. I thought people like me were meant to do it as a hobby and only the elite could have thriving careers as creatives. Luckily, traveling broadened my perspective.”
Now, she has managed to turn her passion into a full-time job, and with a growing audience on Instagram, she clearly has her work cut out for her. Her illustrations – raw, minimalist, and thought-provoking – are influenced by spirituality, slow living, visual anthropology, as well as her multicultural experiences.
We’re guessing we’ll see more of her in the future.

Her website states that she draws her inspiration from many places including the natural world, overseas travel adventures, folk tales, and old murder mystery novels. “I do love the natural world and being surrounded by nature,” she admitted. “I grew up in the bush in the south west of Australia so I feel most at home when I’m surrounded by lots of trees and the beach. I love to travel and I enjoy keeping a visual journal of what I can capture on my trips. I take a sketchbook with me and try to sketch as much as I can. As for the murder mystery novels… this came from my grandma so I guess there is something nostalgic about these old stories for me.”

]]>What makes Faassen’s work unique is the way he combines painting and photography to create one incredible masterpiece. For his Asia Series, his subjects were portrayed behind a frosted sheet of acrylic, creating a distance between the viewer and the subject. The photos are printed on a matte material then Faassen applied thin layers of oil and acrylic paint to the images. Each piece has a “crack” surface as though they have faded in the light.
Faassen has a special interest in Asian culture particularly Japanese art. The concept of Mono no Aware has been greatly influential in his Asia Series artwork. According to the artist, Mono no Aware “translates into a certain awareness of the passing of time. Taking things in slightly melancholicly but with appreciation of beauty at the same time.”
