Lauren Hom is THE Master of Typography

We’ve taken to Lauren Hom’s bold and vibrant typography. Decorating cards, murals, and posters, her lettering skills know no bounds, gathering almost 200k followers on Instagram. But her now blooming career began as a happy accident. “I actually went to art school for creative advertising and started my career at an ad agency,” she shared with Freelance Wisdom. “I always had an interest in lettering, but it was just a hobby…until it wasn’t!”

WOW, it’s my 1000th post!🤯 I’m feeling extra saucy and bossy today, so this felt like the perfect piece to post to commemorate this milestone 🌶 . I didn’t plan this at all (I’m nowhere near that organized haha), but this post coincides with another milestone: ✨Passion to Paid is *finally* reopen and accepting new students for the Summer 2019 session!✨ This is my FIFTH time teaching this class, and I’m proud to say that I’ve taught 1,200 students over the past two years how to market the shit out of their work (in a totally creative & feel-good way) 🙌🏽 . Passion to Paid is my creative process, marketing strategy, and freelance life packed into ONE online course!🏆 If you’ve been loving the videos, blog posts, and other helpful content I’ve been posting, you’ll love this class even more. This 5-week creative boot camp is meant to inspire your best ideas, kickstart your freelance career, and motivate you like never before 💡💡💡 . Real talk: Enrollment closes on Friday May 17th, and I won't be running the course again until next year…so if you've ever wanted to learn directly from me, THIS IS THE TIME TO DO IT! 👉🏽You can sign up and learn more about the class with the first link in my profile 👀 . 💕Thanks for following along with work and creative journey! Whether you’ve been following me for 6 years or 6 minutes, I’m so freakin’ honored to play a role in your creative journey too. I wish there was enough time in the world for me to sit down with each and every one of you to talk about art and eat chips 🍟 . P.S. If we had an hour of chatting and chip-eating, what would you wanna ask me? 😊

She then opened a blog to share her typography experimentations. “It ended up going viral, landing me a book deal, and circulating my work around the web,” she recalled. “Within about a year, I had enough freelance work to comfortably leave my full-time agency job, and I’ve been paying the bills with lettering ever since.”

Featured on publications like TIME Magazine, and collaborating with the likes of Starbucks, Google, AT&T, and YouTube, her happy accident clearly paid off! Join in on the hype, and follow her Instagram page for more.

One of the common misconceptions about making as a creative/artist is that “craft” is the most important asset to your work. . What I’ve seen again and again is that even more than talent, there is one invisible but super important quality that sets money-making creatives apart from the rest 🔮 . I call it creative confidence. This is the ability to: . 👊🏽Trust yourself and your creative instincts. . 💡Stop second-guessing your ideas and wondering if your work is “good enough.” . 👑Put yourself out there online (even if you’re secretly worried you’re not “ready” yet). . 💸Work with dream clients and charge your worth (even if you’re secretly worried you’re not “big” or “fancy” enough). . The best part about this is that creative confidence can be developed. And building creative confidence is a huge part of what students experience while taking Passion to Paid, my 5-week online class that teaches you how to powerfully launch a passion project to boost your creative biz 🚀 . Yes, learning how to launch a project is important, but this class is so much more than that. Passion project ideas may come and go. The creative confidence you build while making them sticks with you forever and sets the stage for your next big win. . There are a little over THREE days left to enroll, and then the class will be closed until 2020. 👉🏽Sign up and learn more w/ the link in my profile 👀
