There is something about cats and their carefree life that puts a smile on our faces every time we witness it. This effect even translates to art as illustrations made by an artist known as Jinodae show.

Jinodae creates minimalistic illustrations of carefree cats living their best life. Their works feature black and white engaged in activities like snoozing, cleaning themselves, rolling on their backs, or observing the world that surrounds them.

Despite the lack of detail, these illustrations are strangely satisfying and captivating, making the viewer feel like they can put together the pieces of the scene that were left out.

In a recent interview with Bored Panda, Jinodae explained that they didn’t always have cats as their primary inspiration. During a prolonged creative block, the artist started using cats as a subject for quick sketches and art studies. This prompted a fascination with the way the felines can “comfortably sit and sleep” and made them a prominent part of their art process.

Jinodae, who uses a combination of digital tools and traditional pen and paper sketching, frequently shares their newest cat illustrations on social media. Continue scrolling to check out more of them and.

Cats make everything better. The project FatCatArt, which sees a chubby orange cat named Zarathustra find its way into iconic paintings, is a great example of that.

Created by artist Svetlana Petrova, the works from the FatCatArt project depict Zarathustra peaking behind the flower vase in Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers,” resting in the arms of a man in El Greco’s “The Nobleman”, or being melted from too much snoozing in Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory”.

Zarathustra’s invasions of famous paintings have delighted social media users, who love the cat’s chubby look and how he always manages to be the star of any artwork he finds himself in. The FatCatArt has a dedicated and ever-growing audience on Instagram, amassing more than 281K followers there.

According to Petrova, she stumbled on the idea to make Zarathustra the star of iconic works of art from the past by accident. Looking for inspiration, she turned to Zarathustra and decided to make a still-life painting with him as the main subject. In order to get a rough idea of what that would look like, she snapped a few photos of the cat and photoshopped him into some classical paintings she found online.

Petrova was quite amused by the results and decided to share some of those works with friends. They thought it was hilarious, and the FatCatArt was born. Now, Zarathustra is present in more than 250 famous paintings, and we hope that the number will keep on getting bigger because we can’t get enough of the orange cat’s antics.

One reason we like cats so much, besides them being cute and fluffy, is that they are small. This allows us to take them into our arms and cuddle them whenever we (or them) want. But did you ever imagine how it would look like if cats were actually giants?

Artist Matt McCarthy is creating surreal photomanipulations in which he imagines cats as giants inhabiting our world. They are still adorable but seem like they could cause humans a lot of inconvenience.

McCarthy shows his giant cats blocking busy streets, taking over crowded beaches, and climbing tall buildings that they could destroy with just one move of their paw.

According to McCarthy, he got the idea for this unique project while observing his own cat playing with a bug.

“The idea initially came to me as I was observing my own cats when they were playing with a bug that entered our house,” McCarthy shared in a chat with Bored Panda. “I wondered how they would react if my wife and I were that small. They’re so sweet and cuddly that we tend to forget they’re apex predators.”

McCarthy’s works have found quite a lot of fans on the internet. His Instagram page has close to 130K followers, while his photomanipualtions can be found on all sorts of products, from calendars to T-shirts.

Lim Heng Swee is a Malaysian illustrator who built a big following on social media thanks to her charming doodles and artworks. Heng Swee is quite versatile, doing webcomics, minimalistic illustrations, and drawings while taking inspiration from various sources, including music, film, and nature.

This talented artist recently started working on a series of minimalistic illustrations and noticed that the shapes and curves of the terrain reminded her lot of cats. This is when she decided she might as well let the cats take the spotlight in this series.

This resulted in cool artworks that show that cats really do make everything better.

“It’s like the surreal view you can see if you landed into a cat planet which is super cool!,” said Heng Swee of her illustrations.

This is especially the case in modern art, where artists often make cats the focal points of their art. Nia Gould, a graphic designer and illistrator does just that.

Gould, who is also known under her moniker niaski, creates all kinds of awesome cat-inspired art including paintings, cards, and much more. But the thing she is most known for is stylish pins through which she reimagines famous artists as cats.

Some of the modern and contemporary artists that received their cat version include Piet Mondrian, who became Meowdrian, Jackson Pollock, who got reimagined as Jackson Pawlock, and Salvador Dalí, who was turned into Catli.
