When done properly, paper art can be awe-inspiring and captivating. This is the case with the works of Indian artist Parth Kothekar, who creates intricate paper art depicting birds and insects.

Kothekar’s creations are unique thanks to the complex patterns he employs in his paper art. After carving a silhouette of a subject from a sheet of paper, he proceeds to decorate the artwork with countless cuts, lines, and gaps, giving it a lace-like effect.

Kothekar got the idea for his unique paper art while experimenting with graffiti stencils. He decided to invert the original design, and his first paper artwork was born.

“The process of inverting the design and carving it from a single piece of paper is fascinating, as the final product is a mystery until the very end,” Kothekar shared in a recent interview.

Paper art was originally just a hobby for Kothekar, but it didn’t take long before he started viewing it as a profession. He now has an Etsy shop on which he sells his works while also enjoying a large social media following.

“My beautiful artworks are based on everyday aspects of life. If it is challenging, it motivates me,” the artist explains.

Sam Pierpoint proves that you don’t need much to be a truly magnificent artist. A simple piece of paper and a pair of scissors can be your weapons of choice. Based in the rural countryside of the Mendip Hills, just south of Bristol UK, Pierpoint creates delicate worlds of paper, that have an air of magic about them.

Which makes sense, judging by the fact that her work is inspired by the many places she hasn’t yet visited. “There are so many places in the world where I’d love to go, many of which I have taken inspiration from,” she told Strictly Paper. “One of those places is the Galápagos Islands! It’s the number one treasure trove of unique weird and wonderful creatures and plant life. It would be fascinating to follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and discover some of the worlds most unique wildlife for myself.”

Designing, cutting, and handcrafting all of her creations, Pierpoint is a master of observation and admits to taking immense pleasure from observing the world around her, in all its glory. Her paper sculptures are used both commercially and artistically, for a variety of different purposes ranging from advertising campaigns and set design to packaging and window displays.

Whatever the case is, the finished product is always a thing of beauty. Take a look for yourself.

Photography | Day 13 #marchmeetthemaker My work wouldn’t be what it is without good photography! I owe a special thanks to my fiancé @mikefoyle for shooting most of my sculptures, behind the scenes footage and making-of videos! We always get a great response with the making-of videos because they give a good sense of my process and how everything comes together from start to finish ✂📏🎥💙 A few facts about my other half and work buddy @mikefoyle – 👉 Mike is a photographer and videographer who runs an aerial filming company called Beehive Aerial @mikefoyledrone. He’s worked on some really exciting dramas and feature films over the past few years! 😀🎬 👉 He’s really into the digital side of things so he loves to geek out and get stuck into the lighting and post processing side of things… so the combination of my creative and his technical skills compliment each other well. 👉 His work has led him to some incredible places like the Maldives, Qatar, Iceland and many more 🌍✈. When he’s not on shoots we share a studio space at our home in the Somerset countryside 😊🎥📷🌳🌲 . For some of the large projects I’ve worked with the super awesome @eddfuryphoto who has a huge photography studio in Bristol. This is ideal for those projects which are too big to photograph in our home studio or when Mike’s not available. I’ve also worked on collaborative and other London based projects with @tristantownley, @garydidsbury and @packshotfactory all are super talented photographers and film studios! Thanks to all for making my work shine! 🥇📸⭐🙌 #meetthemaker #marceetthemakerday13 #photography #photographystudio #shootday #creativestudio #makingofvideo #artist #paperartist #paperart #illustrator #paperillustration #postproduction #collaboration #photographer #photographersgram_feature #videographer #animation #setdesign #onset #filmmaker #setlife #filmstudio #advertising #productphotography #productrange #papercity #paperanimation #studiosetup

Self Care | Day 26 @joannehawker’s #marchmeetthemaker . . I'm a firm believer that nature makes us happy so when I'm not crouched over at my desk I'm usually found galavanting outdoors! 🌄🌸🧡🚵‍♂️🌳🌲💙 . . Aside from my free activities like cycling, running, walking @iggymerlin and kite surfing. @movegb has opened up lots of doors with local classes – anything from adult gymnastics, yoga, dance classes, circus skills, rock climbing, spa, meditation and trampolining is included. Even though I work from home I never feel trapped in the house! It's taken a while to get to this point but I'm so happy with the work life balance now! . . I hear from many people starting out that working from home can be really isolating and it definitely can be but we are all in control over how much time we spend in and out of the house so we have to make a conscious effort to make plans, go out every day, stay active, have fun, take care of ourselves and meet new people and see friends. It's only when we do that, self employment and working from home is bloody amazing! ✊🏡 . . I would deffo recommend Movegb to anyone who gets bored of doing the same thing and would like some variety in their fitness! If you're stuck and want to meet up with other like-minded local people – @theaoi meet-ups and events / @meetup / @nextdoor / @explorersconnect are great!
