Alexandra Elle is committed to self-healing, a worthy goal she hopes to pass on to her many (many!) followers. With more than 650k followers on Instagram alone, her mission is to build a community around self-care practices through literature and language.

It all starts with a simple note – a reminder that you are worth it. Sharing quotes and mantras that are scribbled on tiny notes, she explores the way journaling can help you understand yourself better. She also teaches workshops and retreats centered around assisting others in finding their voices through storytelling, poetry, and narrative writing.

“A lot of people believe that self-care has to be expensive and lavish, but it doesn’t,” she told Hello Giggles. “It can mean something as simple as making sure that you take five minutes to decompress every day. Take time to breathe. We are moving so quickly that sometimes we don’t even realize we’re breathing! Remember to be here and be present—that’s a non-negotiable for me. It really is amazing what taking five minutes—or whatever you can spare—just to be present can do for the rest of your day.”

“For me, self-care teaches that I can pour into myself just as much as I pour into others,” Elle explains. “In fact, it means that in order to put the most love and care towards others that I can, I must take care of myself first.” Start the new decade on the right foot:

Whew! This was a big lesson for me in the 2010s. It was more than a challenge. For a good two years I kept trying to grow AND hold on to folks that weren’t. I kept trying to bring people with me who weren’t ready to change. I was scared to evolve alone—but that’s what I needed. . . I found who I was in some pretty gloomy moments. And when I emerged, I was ready to meet likeminded folks, my now husband came into my life, and my life’s work started to come to fruition. My chosen family and sister-friends (also) started to form. And, best of all, I discovered what it meant to STAND deeply in self-trust. . . I learned what it meant to let people go lovingly, and that loving them from a distance was alright. I learned that being alone isn’t always synonymous with being lonely. I learned that what I wanted mattered and to value myself on a deeper level. . . I’m ready to see what the next 10 years will teach me. I feel blessed to be here — on the other side of pain. Finding my joy in the 2010s was life changing. . . Community: What did the last 10 years teach you? Is there a lesson that really stood out? . . My virtual course starts on 1/5. The registration cart is open until 1/1. Quite a few have been gifting the course for the holidays and it’s pretty epic to see! We also have a global community which is wild and amazing to me. Sign up to join us at the link in my bio.

Lindsey Bugbee is a creative spirit. Her favorite things include art and calligraphy, wordsmithing on her blog, and traveling with a sketchbook in hand. So it only made sense to dedicate her career to her creative passion. “A passion for art and calligraphy prompted me to start The Postman’s Knock in 2012 as a custom illustration, calligraphy, and graphic design business,” she explains on her website. “I called my business ‘The Postman’s Knock’ because of my love for beautiful snail mail!”

These are disconcerting times. Hernán, Remy, and I have been spending most of the day at home, and everything feels normal, but isn't. We're doing everyday things, but I'm second guessing them. Like — if we need to run to the store for something, I think, "Is it absolutely essential to go out?" Workouts are always done at home in front of the television because the gym is closed and it's cold outside. We're washing our hands until they're cracked and dry. And I can't help but worry about the older members of my family, some of whom have underlying health issues. ⠀ .⠀ I think we're all in that boat, and we're all in this together. The best we can do is, of course, try and take care of those in our communities who need us — and take care of our own physical and mental health. To me, a big part of that is taking time for creativity. If you find yourself with idle time and a racing mind, complete a tutorial. Work in your sketchbook. Fill out a calligraphy worksheet. The TPK blog is full of free project tutorials/printables to keep busy, and now through Thursday, digital products (like worksheets) are 25% off with the code KEEPINGBUSY. See the latest TPK newsletter (link in profile) for details. ⠀ .⠀ As always — stay healthy, stay safe, and I'm thinking of you. ❤⠀ .⠀ #calligraphy #moderncalligraphy #pointedpen #dippen #calligraphyvideo #timelapse #pointedpencalligraphyvideo #writingcalligraphy #writingcalligraphyvideo #coronavirus #inittogether #together #community #creativity #keepingbusy #penmanship #calligraphersofinstagram #positiveattitude #art #artutorial #moderncalligraphyvideo #handwritten #handwriting #obliquepen #brauseef66nib #whitecalligraphy #hanginthere

But as her brand grew, so has her desire shifted towards teaching others her skills, and passing her knowledge onwards. Defining herself as a teacher and a blogger, Bugbee now teaches calligraphy and watercolor painting and shares her tips and tricks on her blog. Noteworthy blogposts include 10 ‘Stuck at Home’ Project Suggestions and The Beginner’s Guide to Modern Calligraphy.

“The best advice I can give about learning calligraphy is you have to enjoy your practice,” she writes. “Yes, use structured resources like an online course or a worksheet, but also let yourself have fun. As you start to get the hang of how to use a dip pen, take on engaging projects.” According to Bugbee, as long as your practice is enjoyable, you’ll continue to hone your skills.

Her blog is a great tool for aspiring calligraphers, but you can also enjoy Bugbee’s work without dipping your pen via Instagram:

Just a bit of encouragement for you: when I started learning calligraphy, I didn't especially have a knack for it. The top two envelopes show my early (2012) attempts, when I was too terrified to use a dip pen! ✍ It was only after months of practice and more trial and error than I care to admit that I started to see results. The bottom envelopes are from 2014, and I only continued to improve from there. 😊 .⠀ My hope in providing calligraphy courses and worksheets is to empower other people to progress quicker than I did. I want you to feel comfortable moving on past faux calligraphy, and I want you to benefit from my mistakes (including using the wrong paper/ink combinations, gripping the pen wrong, the list goes on …)! Take the Beginner's Modern Calligraphy Online Course (link in profile), and in about a month, you'll learn what took me two years to understand. Or, just peruse the articles on the TPK blog for tips and information! Keep a notebook at hand, and write down anything you want to remind yourself later. 📝 .⠀ #throwback #improvement #learningcalligraphy #learncalligraphy #onlinecalligraphycourse #learncalligraphyonline #calligraphyworkshops #beginnercalligraphy #beforeandafter #beginnercalligraphy #snailmail #envelopes #snailmailrevolution #penpals #envelopecalligraphy #decoratedenvelopes #calligraphyimprovement #calligraphyenvelopes #fauxcalligraphy #earlywork #handlettering #moderncalligraphy #calligraphyprogress #practicemakesprogress #calligraphypractice #coloradocalligraphyworkshop #calligraphyworkshop #beginnercalligraphyworkshop #practicecalligraphy #dippencalligraphy #fauxcalligraphy⠀

Naomi Bulger describes herself as a writer, an illustrator, and a mother, on a path to live her life with more simplicity, greater creativity, and deliberate kindness. Through her bespoke courses and workshops, she aims to give women the confidence, inspiration, and practical tools they need to share their creative work and stories.

One such online course is aimed at reviving the art of letter writing. Bulger guides through multiple methods of making beautiful mail-art and handmade stationery, teaching the art of writing and storytelling in a letter and helping you forge personal connections and find pen-pals.

“It’s time,” reads her website. “Time to pick up a pen and write a letter to Nanna. Surprise Facebook friends with a handwritten postcard. Send a thank-you card to your child’s school teacher. Leave a loving post-it note for your partner. No matter what your reason for writing, I will help you make it special and beautiful.”

“Life today is busier than it has ever been!” she acknowledges. “But I think that is all the more reason why it is so special to slow down enough to write something meaningful, and personal, and show the person you’re writing to how much you care.” According to Bulger, we all have the creative potential within us, which she hopes to push forward.

But even if you don’t follow her guidelines, her Instagram page alone will provide you with all the inspiration you need to write that letter.

You know when people talk about “labours of love”? I can absolutely relate! I have just given birth to my completely revised letter-writing and mail-art e-course, “The Most Beautiful Letter You’ve Ever Written,” and am SO proud to introduce my bouncing baby e-course to the world! 🌿⁣ At long last, it’s all ready for anyone who enjoys (or wants to enjoy) the slow, creative and heartfelt process of writing letters and spreading joy. ⁣ 🌿⁣ It took me a full nine months to revise, research, rewrite, create and fine-tune the course content, including adding in a whole extra week’s worth of inspiration and tutorials, creating a private community (known as the Letter Writers’ Corner), introducing a bespoke pen-pal matching service, and hosting regular letter-related events (like the #bookishpenpalswap I ran last week) exclusively for students and alumni. ⁣ 🌿⁣ This weekend I invited more than 300 past students to take a sneak peek at the new content, and introduced them all to the Letter Writers’ Corner. ⁣ 🌿⁣ And today I am VERY happy to announce that this course is back on sale for the first time since May last year. Classes will unlock on the 16th of March but anyone who signs up now can also receive an earlybird discount of 15 percent. Follow the link in my bio to find out more about The Most Beautiful Letter You’ve Ever Written, and be sure to use the discount code A-LOVELY-LETTER to take advantage of the discount. ⁣ 🌿⁣ I’d love to see you there, and help you make and write some truly beautiful letters. ⁣ 🌿💌🌸⁣ #yourbeautifulletter #incowrimo2020 #happymail #sharealovenote #penpallingandletters #onequietcup #stationerylove #carepackage #myeverydaymagic #thesincerestoryteller #loveforanalogue

Letterpress and greeting-cards brand Hello!Lucky is all about using creativity to amplify human kindness (“We love to have pun,” reads their cheesily witty Instagram bio). Launched in 2003 by sisters Eunice James and Sabrina Moyle, the two joined creative forces with the aim to spread a little sunshine and promote kindness through their uplifting designs.

“We are both very creative and visually minded,” said James in an interview with Say Yes. “I have the design and illustration skills, but Sabrina is also a great art director and has a really good sense of design. Sabrina is, however, way more left brained than I am – she’s good with numbers and strategic planning and that kind of thing.”

While James, a gifted illustrator, is obsessed with the craft of letterpress, Moyle, a creative entrepreneur, dove in to get Hello!Lucky off the ground with its first collection of letterpress printed greeting cards which pushed the envelope with exuberant illustrations and fun puns. Years later, and with almost 80k followers on Instagram alone, Hello!Lucky is an award-winning design studio working with dozens of partners to design products ranging from best-selling children’s books to bedding, ceramics, socks, stationery, custom photo albums and more.

With positivity at its core, the sisters’ life philosophy is straightforward enough: “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar!” they say, adding a worthwhile reminder: “Have a positive attitude and always be nice.”

The two practice what they preach. Since 2015, they have consistently used our brand platform and talent to give back—co-founding the non-profit Write_On Campaign with Egg Press, creating protest posters for the Women’s March on Washington, selling cause pins that have raised over $20K for various charities, and more. But, their Instagram page is worth following for their quirky illustrations and puns alone.

For some time now, actress Emma Watson has been promoting women’s rights. In July 2014, she was also officially appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, and has promoted education for girls, visiting Bangladesh and Zambia along the way. It’s little wonder that she was placed on the TIME 100 list of the world’s most influential people, with former New York Times editor Jill Abramson commending her “gutsy, smart take on feminism.”

But apart from being a celebrated actress, a humanitarian, and feminist, Watson is also quite the bookworm. So it only made sense that she chose to combine both her passion for reading and activism by starting her own book club. “I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too,” said Watson. “As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there!”

Her book club is an open platform, promoted on Goodreads as well as having its own dedicated Instagram page. To become a member, all you need to do is register for an account and join the group’s page.

“The plan is to select and read a book every two months, then discuss the work and related topics together,” Watson explains. “I will post some questions/quotes to get things started, but I would love for this to grow into an open discussion with and between you all.” Whenever possible, authors or other prominent voices on the subject join in the conversation.

So why not join in yourself?
