If you are looking for a new webcomic to provide you with a daily dose of laughs, then Buni Comics might be just for you. But we have to warn you, they are on the side of dark humor and come with unexpected twists.

Created by Ryan Pagelow, Buni Comic follows a rabbit named Buni who lives in a world inhabited by teddy bears. The main character is described by Pagelow as a “naïve optimist with terrible luck”. Nothing ever goes his way, but he keeps on hoping for the best. Terrible for him, but great for everyone who follows his adventures.

Besides Buni, the world of Buni Comics has several other recurring characters that are quirky in their own way. This includes Buni’s cynical father, BuniDad, a wheelchair dog named Dogi, and BuniGirl, the “object of all of Buni’s desires,” who is uninterested in him.

Most of Buni Comic start with a simple premise before spiraling out of control and introducing unbelievable scenarios. It appears that anything can happen, and you never know what the punchline might be until you reach it.

Buni Comic is currently being published in newspapers and by various online publishers. Pagelow also shares them on Instagram on a regular basis. Check out more of them below.

Doing things with friends is always better and more fun, especially when it comes to creative work. This is one of the secrets behind the hugely popular “Pudin and Flan” webcomics.

The main characters of these comics are two gamer girls, Pudin and Flan, who not only share an apartment together but also the goal of achieving their “big dreams.” Throughout the comics, we witness Pudin and Flan going through adventures and all sorts of funny and relatable everyday situations that can happen to everyone.

The reason why these comics hit close to home is that they are based on real people and real-life events. The “Pudin and Flan” is the project by three friends – Destinee Cleveland, Jackie King, and James Averett – who decided to use their own lives as an inspiration for the adventures of Pudin and Flan.

According to the group, which has an artistic background, they originally wanted to create an animated show around “Pudin and Flan.” Unfortunately, their pitch was rejected, so they decided to turn it into a comic. And it’s safe to say that they made a great decision.

“Our original goal was to create a funny little comic about ourselves, but it’s become something so much bigger,” shared the comic creators. “We now have a chance to bring about representation for everything we find important in our lives and the society we live in.”

Check out more of Pudin and Flan’s cool adventures below.

What first drew us to Kelly Abeln was her candid approach to illustration. Her autobiographical comics turns the most mundane things into bite-sized illustration that pack a punch. Based in Minneapolis, MN, Abeln freelances full-time from her home studio, working on a variety of illustration and design projects for clients, alongside her more personal projects.

“I love that what I want to do aligns with how I support myself,” she once remarked in an interview with MCAD Alumni. “I also love seeing people’s reactions to my work and that I get to see things I create out in the world. The variety of working from home, working on a contract assignment, and personal projects keeps things interesting.”

Having received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration with a concentration in Graphic Design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, she admits she chose illustration because she wanted to draw and paint but was more interested in commercial than fine arts as a career. “Illustration classes were pretty open and let you experiment and find your style,” explained Abeln. “I also liked the formality of graphic design classes; learning grids and rules was a good balance to the openness of illustration.”

According to Abeln, once she started making comics she found they were the perfect way to get her autobiographical stories all out and release them. But ultimately her work takes a lot of work. “Inspiration comes from working,” she says. “Just keep making stuff and ideas will come.”

Ryan Heshka’s art is fueled by his love of vintage aesthetics. Early influences that persist to this day include antiquated comics and pulp magazines, natural history, graphic design and music, movies, and animation. With his artwork coming across as an unearthed sci-fi comics from a dystopian past, humor is also to be expected.

“My aesthetic from the get go was vintage: I was an oddball kid who sought out visuals from bygone eras,” he once remarked in an interview with WOW x WOW, adding that “its almost as if I were just born that way, wired into the past.”

An esteemed artist, Heshka’s illustrations have appeared in Vanity Fair, Wall Street Journal, Esquire, and the New York Times, amongst other top tier publications. He has also been selected to appear in American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, and Communication Arts.

But oddly enough, his creative journey wasn’t as straight forward. “I arrived where I am via a very indirect route,” he told WOW x WOW. “I drew a lot as a child, and through my teens. After graduation, I attended university for interior design and worked in that field for about four years.”

Although he gained a lot of knowledge about art, architecture, and general design principles; interior design, as it turned out, wasn’t for Heshka. “In the late 90s I relocated to Vancouver, B.C., and found my way into animation, an art form I have always loved.” Much like interior design, animation wasn’t Heshka’s cup of tea. “Around that time, illustration really caught my eye, so I created some promotional cards and sent those out, with the hopes of becoming a professional illustrator. Kate Larkworthy Artist Representation in New York liked my work, and I found myself, again, image making.”

Entirely self-taught as an artist and illustrator, Heshka’s achievements (as well as some 50k followers on Instagram) are all the more incredible. Take a look at some of his work in the gallery below.

There’s a reason why illustrator, author, cartoonist, and designer Marloes De Vrie has such a massive following online (her Instagram page alone amassed some 125k devoted fans). Her comics style of illustration (humorous, playful, and colorful) is oftentimes very much on point. “Life is too short to search for matching socks,” remarks one of her characters (designed to look like De Vrie herself), while another solemnly states: “I finally understand I have just one body.”

Working as a freelance illustrator and writer, most of De Vries’ time is spent on creating illustrations for magazines, publishers and businesses. Since 2016, De Vries makes a monthly cartoon for the union magazine NT Magazine, and writes articles about self-development for Charlie Magazine and Flow, and in 2018, she was asked to develop a new weekly comic strip for the girls’ magazine Tina.

So it comes as no surprise that she took to illustration early on. As a little girl, she’d make robots out of shoe boxes and toilet rolls and would grab every piece of paper available in the house so she could draw; and by the age 18, she was accepted to the ArtEZ School of Arts in Enschede, where she studied visual communication.

Her favorite jobs include designing book covers and creating editorial illustrations for magazines. Take a look at some highlights from her Instagram page in the gallery below:

Scrolling through Kate Bingaman-Burt’s Instagram page is like flipping through an illustrated journal or, more likely, a to-do list. The Portland-based illustrator is known for her crammed illustrations that include bright colors, hand lettering, and inventories of illustrated objects.

And just like her illustrations, so are Bingaman-Burt’s days crammed with activities: working as an illustrator, an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Portland State University, an Outlet owner hosting workshops and pop-up events, and a risograph print studio owner; as well as a board member of Design Portland.

Her many projects include publications, prints, textiles, patterns, installations, murals, and ongoing photo documentation and crowd-sourced illustration projects. She’s also written a few books and made plenty of zines, making her the ultimate it-girl. “My roles as commercial illustrator, full-time educator, and project-based artist overlap to inform an intricate creative workflow,” she writes on her website.

Cartoonist, illustrator, and writer, Gemma Correll is worthy of your Instagram feed. With over 675k followers, her illustrations are clearly relatable, adding a spot of humor to an otherwise mundane existence. Her popularity goes well beyond Instagram, having published a few books and with features in top tier publications that include The New York Times and Oxford University Press. Aside from that, she also publishes her comics regularly on The Nib and in The Observer Sunday Magazine

And with her career wholly in tune with her artistic calling, she has the cake and eats it, or so it seems. “To be honest, I don’t feel like an ‘illustration sensation,’” she admitted in an interview with the Ohh Deer Blog. “I’m just at home, drawing and eating peanut butter out of the jar most of the time. I never expected to make a career out of art and even now that I have, I’m still amazed that I actually get paid for my doodles.”

“I knew that it could be a career, but I didn’t really think that it was something I could do,” she went on to say, adding that everyone she knew had a practical job, like a nurse or a teacher. Still, she would spend most of her time drawing and writing and ended up at art school. “But even then I didn’t think that I could make a career from art – I planned to become a teacher,” she said. “It wasn’t until I was actually getting commissioned for illustration jobs that I finally accepted the fact that I had become ‘an illustrator’”.

Indeed she has! Follow her Instagram page for a daily dose of wittiness.

Bloo’s drawings have one goal – to show cute quirks that nearly every girl has. They are all about laughing at the common daily struggles we all share. The artist hopes you can find yourself in her comics and let her art brighten your day.

The main character, Hanna, is based on her. She’s a 20-year-old girl (permanently) who was born in the Internet age. “Hanna is a unique girl who knows how to deal with pimples and stay calm,” the artist told Bored Panda. “She knows what it means to have mood swings or to have constant thoughts about her hair – ‘should I cut it or better dye it?.’”

“I used to write a lot for fun, so when I found out about webcomics, I figured this was a way to start again and do it regularly — so here I am. I write the comics, and partner with a wonderful illustrator to create the art,” Lopez told Bored Panda.

He draws inspiration from his daily life and relationship with his fiancé, occasionally covering world news topics. The strips include everyday humor and romance and they have a positive vibe.

Flip through some of her delightful illustrated works in the gallery below.
