It’s amazing when two talented artists get together to create something that celebrates their distinctive styles and pays homage to one great band and one fantastic singer. Ali Spagnola collaborated with Nataly Dawn of Pomplamoose in an attempt to turn Lizzo’s hit song “Truth Hurts” in the style of Mumford & Sons, and the result is actually pretty great. The video, which was published on August 8th, already has over 1 million views on Youtube.

“Lizzo + Mumford & Sons + Nataly Dawn!! Of course you’ve always wanted to hear a Truth Hurts cover like it was folk. Um, right? A Lizzo remix, Mumford & Sons remix folk song parody with half of Pomplamoose. Ok maybe you didn’t ask for it but it turned out MAGICAL. I’m absolutely thrilled with this one,” Spagnola wrote on Youtube.

We’re irrationally happy that this collaboration happened; it may just be Spagnola’s enthusiasm that’s contagious. See the video below.

A recent documentary that you can watch on PBS shows a sleeping octopus that’s probably having a vivid dream and Dr. David Scheel explained what the dream could be about.

Dr. Scheel is a marine biologist who was involved in creating this documentary. In his opinion, the octopus is probably dreaming about hunting, which he assumed because of the color-changing that’s going on.

“So here she’s asleep, she sees a crab and her color starts to change a little bit,” Laughing Squid quoted Dr. Scheel. “Then she turns all dark. Octopuses will do that when they leave the bottom. This really is fascinating.”

Dr. Scheel spent years studying the octopus that’s the subject of this documentary and that’s how he’s able to talk about what the animal may dream about. Click play below to see the video.

Chase Holfelder, a musician who creates “minor key covers of major key songs” and publishes them on Youtube, has recently posted a video of his cover of the famous Friends theme song, I’ll Be There For You. This cover is different from any other you’ve heard before because it turns the song into a 1990-style heavy metal ballad in a minor key.

“In light of the terrible news that Friends will soon be leaving Netflix, I made a sad, minor-key version of the theme song,” the musician wrote along with the video. As it was recently announced, Friends will not be available on Netflix for much longer, as the show should move to the new WarnerMedia’s streaming service called HBO Max. HBO Max is set to launch in spring 2020.

Sketch comedy show Studio C publishes humorous videos on its Youtube channel every Tuesday and Friday. One recent video shows what a day off in Superman’s life might look like.

As we learn from comic books and movies, superheroes don’t really get time for themselves. They are ready to save the world whenever they are needed, but what happens when one of them needs some “me time?” This 5-minute video shows Clark Kent in a bank line, waiting in line to make a deposit like any other citizen. Suddenly, a robber barges in and Kent is pressured by others to save the day, but he explains that “today was supposed to be a ‘me day’.”

Reiner was born in 1922, which means he turned 97 this March. He still keeps himself busy with various projects; he says: “If you wake up in the morning and have something to do, you’ll live because you gotta finish that. You can’t leave before you finish something you really want to do.” This seems like an obvious thing, but we can’t help but notice it really sounds true. Reiner is a famous comedian, actor, screenwriter, and director who’s famous for co-writing and acting on Ceasar’s Hour and Your Show of Show back in the 1950s.

We can only imagine that Jan Hakon Erichsen is not a favorite guest at birthday parties. After all, this is the guy that came up with hundreds of bizarre ideas for destructing balloons. But given his popularity, he can easily start throwing “balloon destroying” parties and hope to have thousands of people come to see him live.

Oslo-based “visual artist and balloon destroyer,” as his Instagram description reads, says that “you should really, really, not try this at home.” And why would you, when you have hundreds of posts of him destroying balloons with home-made devices you can see on his Instagram page. At least give it a chance, because half a million people aren’t there for nothing.

In a statement he shared, Erichsen said that he “works within a variety of media focusing on topics like fear, anger and frustration.” Aside from balloon-destroying videos, his social media pages are full of many interesting DIY projects. Birdlime is a short stop-motion animated movie that shows how the exotic pet industry looks from the perspective of a bird. It was directed by Evan DeRushie who came up with the idea during his trip to Thailand, where he was introduced to the exotic pet industry.

DeRushie makes the characters and scenes by hand and avoids too much digital editing, because of which his props need to be sturdy and last while the filming does. The movie is kid-friendly and colorful, but the message it conveys is not so cheerful.

He was thinking about how the animals are usually represented in animation and the effects this has in the real world, so he came to the conclusion that animation is a powerful tool. “With this in mind, I tried to portray a respectful relationship between human and animal and to treat the bird without too much anthropomorphism. I also wanted the film to feel like you were in the cage with the main character, and to be a bit confused by the world,” said DeRushie in a statement.

See the movie below.
