Takehiro Kishimoto is a Japanese chef who turns fruit and veggies into works of art. Kishimoto practices mukimono, the Japanese art of food garnishing, but also uses traditional Thai techniques of carving fruit and vegetables.

Working with a sharp knife, Kishimoto decorates food with complex designs, turning them into miniature sculptures. He often turns to traditional Japanese patterns for new ideas while also seeking inspiration in nature.

He often has to work fast in order to avoid oxidation but still managed to pack an incredible amount of details into each of his pieces. When finished, Kishimoto snaps a photo of his creation and then eats it in order to prevent it from going to waste.

Kishimoto decided to give food art a try after seeing a report about it on television. He started sharing his works on social media in 2016 and has since amassed a huge following. This is particularly the case on Instagram, where he has 250K followers.

“I enjoy doing it because, as a chef, I find it extremely pleasing to create beautiful objects from food,” Kishimoto said in an interview with SWNS. “People also find it entertaining, which I think is important.”

Bread baking is an art form in its own right, but one woman from North Carolina found a way to take it to a whole new level. Her Instagram page Blondie + Rye became a true sensation after she started sharing her beautifully decorated and intricately carved loaves with the world.

Hannah P. started baking after receiving a Dutch oven and a simple no-knead recipe from a co-worker—and never looked back! After creating her first sourdough starter, she started experimenting with crust art by carving her loaves or adding edible decorations.

When you look at her loaves, it seems like there’s a lot of planning going into each one, but that’s not the case. Hannah told My Modern Met that she doesn’t like planning her doughs or designs too much because improvisation is part of the fun.

When it comes to her carved bread designs, she admitted there’s an element of rush and danger going into them. She has to act fast when creating them because it’s easy to ruin the design if the scoring tool slips midway through or if she misjudges the hydration of the dough.

From fruits and veggies to nuts and herbs, Hannah enjoys decorating her bread with every food that she stumbles upon, so head to her Instagram page for some bread art inspiration.

Cakes don’t have to look good to be tasty. But when they do, it makes them really special and worth of admiration. One of such cakes was recently made by university student and amateur baker Rin.

Rin shared her newest dessert creation that could rightfully be considered as an art piece. She made a cheesecake featuring a lively scene of capybaras bathing in Japanese hot springs (onsen) while being surrounded by oranges, vegetation, and rocks. According to Rin, the scene was inspired by real-life as capybaras soaking in an onsen is a familiar sight in Japan.

Rin’s creation generated a lot of attention, with social media users praising her impressive cake and cooking skills. This prompted her to make another similar cake with an updated scene that featured a duck and an adorable chubby bird. She also has plans to make other cakes with similar scenes from nature, and we can’t wait.

If you fell in love with this cake and would like to try it, we have some great news for you. Inspired by the positive reactions, Rin made a tutorial with detailed instructions on making her Capybara Hot Springs cake.

The recipe is quite simple and doesn’t require baking. Check it out below.

Those of you who know me well, know that Jim Henson and Brian Froud were two of my biggest artistic inspirations growing up… which is why I was so thrilled that YOU GUYS overwhelmingly voted for me to make “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” the subject of my next pie! 🔮⚔🧚‍♂️ Seriously, it wasn’t even close. I got hundreds of great suggestions but the one that came up over and over again was “something from Dark Crystal!” Not only am I pleased as punch to get to create this humble homage to one of my favorite shows (on Netflix now – go watch it!) I’m so happy to know that so many of you love it too! The use of real puppets and sets is just so special. To know that these worlds actually exist and can (in theory) be visited in real life makes me happy. Visiting those sets one day is my dream… 🥰 ⠀⠀ I started making the Gelfling character “Deet” out of modeling chocolate (with a malt ball eye) but I didn’t have any green chocolate paint to tint her skin, and also decided she needed a more defiant expression so I switched her to “Brea.” So we’ve got Brea’s coloring and expression on Deets features 😂 Bit of artistic license! I’m happy with how the Skeksis Chamberlain turned out though – he’s just pie crust painted with gel color mixed with vanilla extract. ⠀⠀ Have you seen the show yet? If a “Jim Henson World” theme park existed, what fictional locations would you just love to visit – The Pigs in Space set? Labyrinth? Fraggle Rock? Sesame Street? Farscape? The Muppet Babies Nursery? Let me know in the comments below, and thanks for all your great pie suggestions! ⠀⠀. #jimhenson #darkcrystal #brianfroud #lisahenson #wendyfroud #pieart @darkcrystalofficial @hensoncompany #ageofresistance #jimhensoncompany @netflix #thra #thedarkcrystalageofresistance #skeksis #gelfling #pie

This talented Canadian baker is a real expert when it comes to pies, as she is able to turn them into real works of art. She is inspired by pop culture and she includes scenes from popular TV shows like Game of Thrones and blockbuster movies like Star Wars.

As a matter of fact, her pies are so well crafted that you might have trouble digging into them in order not to spoil their artistic value. No matter how mouth-watering they are.

“My mission is to show the world that not only can pies go head-to-head against the poshest wedding cakes and fancy-pants desserts on the most discerning buffet tables of the world, but that they can be fun and easy to pull off too!”- says Jessica on her official website.

Check out some of her creations below.

Happy Easter and Passover and Sunday everybody!! 💐💕 I’m so excited to share this, my first ever collab with my friend and constant inspiration @luxeandthelady (who’s real name is also Jessica!) We’ve been looking for a collab to do together for a while and with the Springy holidays coming up (and the #pieartanimalscollab happening now until May 12th) she suggested we tackle Disney’s Bambi. Check out her page this afternoon to see Bambi’s good buddy Thumper! 🐰 Jessica’s super Kawaii treats have always been a delight, but it’s her photo styling and sense of design that really blow my mind… I hope you love her work as much as I do! ⠀⠀ Now for me it’s time finish the last bit of tidying before the family arrives – we’re hosting Easter this year and as my son said “the Easter bunny is going to feel bad for coming here and dump all the eggs in the garbage if we don’t get the yard looking nicer” 😂 ⠀⠀ What are you baking this weekend? Any family traditions involving your own special treats? Share in the comments below! I love hearing about all the unique things people create for these big family holidays 😊💕 ⠀⠀ Oh! And before I forget – after your are done checking out Jessica’s fab Thumper pie – head over to my friend @coderxbaker who has just posted a gorgeous Bambi pie too! So much glorious Pie Art this year 🥰 Viva la Pie Art! ⠀⠀ #bambi #disneyfamily #easterpie #easterdessert #happyeaster #bambiandthumper #disneyfanart

You know that feeling when some food is looking too perfect and you are afraid to spoil it? In these situations, people would rather enjoy looking at meals than actually eating it. Well, this is the feeling people get all the time when they see Katrina Moon’s macarons.

Moon is a self-proclaimed “obsessed macaron hobbyist” who enjoys making these delicious treats in her spare time. Everything started a year ago when she decided to give it a try despite having no previous baking experience.

Encouraged by not burning her house down, Moon started devoting more time to this hobby and soon became an expert for macarons. Wanting to do something different, she decided to start baking macarons in all sorts of different shapes, including monsters, animals, and other creatures. She made sure to use warm colors and give them happy faces, which resulted in the most adorable macarons you will ever see.

“Sometimes I wonder if it’s hard for people to eat them only because they look so cute,” Moon says. “There’s plenty to look at; my works feature a wide variety of adorable little monsters, animals, and other creatures.”

Moon also intends to learn how to do other pastries like cakes and cookies, but until then, check out some of her adorable macarons below.

Illustrator Tom Hovey describes himself as “the guy who draws all the cakes.” An apt description for The Great British Bake Off‘s official illustrator – a coveted job he’s kept since it’s inception in 2010. His multi-disciplinary approach has seen him apply his unique style across a broad spectrum of genres including TV graphics, food illustration, editorial, book illustration, storyboarding, animation, apparel design, and even murals.

But it all started by sort of mistake. “It’s a real case of being at the right place at the time right time,” he told Vulture. “My best mate worked in television and suggested that I apply for a job in ‘the edit’ at this new cookery show. With no TV experience or idea about how edits worked, I blagged my way in and started two days later.”

After his editing job took off, Hovey shared with the directors and editors that his passion was actually illustration. “It led to the director coming to me in the second week saying that he felt there was a visual element missing and maybe I could come up with some ideas,” he recalled. “I sketched a few examples, we decided on a style that fit the bill and I got the gig.”

Throughout the many seasons of the show, his creative style has stayed consisted, creating appetizing illustrations of the deserts at hand. “The concept was to create drawings based on what the bakers may have sketched out when deciding what to bake in the show in their own recipe sketchbook,” explained Hovey. “The style has grown with the show and I think as the contestants’ skills have improved year on year, so have mine, and in turn my ability to display their creations in the best light.”

With Series 10 of GBBO starting today I thought I’d show how my illustrations have developed and changed over the past decade. Illustrations of Series 1-9 winners, @theboywhobakes @jowheatleybakes @john_whaite @frances_quinn @nancy.birtwhistle @nadiyajhussain @candicebrown @sophiefaldo @bakewithrahul 🍰❤🍰❤🍰❤🍰 Series 10 of The Great British Bake Off starts today. Which means I’ve been producing the illustrations for 10 years! I moved to London in 2010, and got a job logging footage in the edit of the first episode. The editor (Simon Evans) & the director (@andydevo) decided there was a visual element missing from the show. Something to help the viewers understand what was hopefully being created. I got the gig and the rest is history! Me and my team have drawn well over 3,000 bakes to date. Bake Off has been a life changing opportunity for me, it’s been the hardest, longest, most challenging and brilliant project I’ve ever been a part of. I’m grateful every day for the break it’s given me into the industry. (Sorry in advance for the long-ass Oscar’s speech 😭) I’m thankful for all the producers, directors, food researchers, runners, loggers and every member of the LOVE Productions, production team that I’ve worked with over the past 10 series. Thank you to everyone that has watched the show and continues to watch. Thank you to everyone that has sent me messages of love and support of my work, you have all inspired me to keep going when it’s 5am and I still have 3 croquembouche to colour! Thank you to all the amazing bakers whose talents and creativity makes my brain melt every year, with what they can create with some, flour and eggs. Thank you to all the talented illustrators who’ve joined Studio Hovey since 2016. @casparwain, @alex_hovey_illustration, Sophie Ridley, @liam_callebout & @laurengoreart . Most of all thank you to my incredible long suffering wife Candy who has had to put up with missing anniversaries, date nights and spending many weekends and evenings alone because I’m drawing cakes. Candy has been my rock throughout, massive love forever! 🍰❤🍰❤🍰❤🍰❤ #GBBO @britishbakeoff #CAKE #illustration #tv ##gbbs @channel4 #food #tomhovey

You know how it was when you were little—no playing with food was allowed. But that’s exactly what Matteo Stucchi’s career is all about. He’s a pastry chef with an amazing talent for creating miniature worlds on his cakes and other confectionery.

Stucchi is 26-years-old and he lives in Italy. He named his Instagram account idolcidigulliver, a name taken from the children’s book Gulliver’s Travels. In the book, the main character Gulliver travels to the land of tiny Lilliputians and Stucchi’s miniature worlds definitely remind us of the story.

“I wanted to present my desserts differently from others,” Stucchi told The Local. “There are lots of artists who create miniatures using food, but I focus on desserts. I try to use my imagination as much as possible in order to surprise people.”
